Full DescriptionThe aim of this ride is to get in some energetic riding whilst taking in the pleasures of the seaside during summer. Not forgetting the obligatory coffee. This is a fast paced ride and should not be your first ride with Bike North. You should at least be comfortable doing other Bike North medium-hard rides greater than 60km or hard rides. You will need to be an experienced rider capable of riding in groups at pace and with traffic. You must have a reasonable fitness to ascend hills and keep within reach of the group. If in doubt please contact the ride leader.

This ride will mostly be run in the summer period, ie under hot conditions. You must be capable of managing hydration and sustenance on a long ride. This ride starts at Hornsby. The route heads from Hornsby onto to St Ives. Here we stop to possibly pick up some other riders at the Stanley St car park (Other riders need to be there for a pickup 30 minutes after ride start time - Note that the ride will not wait if you are late!!!!). Then it's continue on and turn right onto Forest Way, cross to head south along Wakehurst Parkway before descending to beautiful Manly. On the beach we will lock up, change (for those taking the optional swim) and have coffee, snacks and chat. That means that there will be a break of about 90 mins in riding at this point.

So if you want continuous rtiding, this may not be the ride for you. For the return journey, we have a few options. We can return the reverse way (tot dist 70kms), or travel via ferry to the city and follow the North Shore cycle route and thence along the Gore Hill/Epping cyleway back to the start (tot dist 60kms), or if we are feeling quite slack take the ferry option and train (total dist 40 kms). You will need to contact the ride leader to ascertain which return leg the ride will take on any particular day. You will need to bring swimmers, towell, togs, lock and money for coffee/cake and/or ferry.

The ride with a return via the same route is expected to return around 12:30pm Anyone swimming on this ride does so at their own risk and acknowledges that risk by signing the ride sign on sheet.
