Short DescriptionRide the gruelling gradients of Bowen Mountain only to turn around and face the harrowing, twisting Descent.
Full DescriptionThis ride features arguably, the Hardest and Steepest climb in Greater Sydney.

We ride from our Start Point to North Richmond at a fast pace with minimal regroups. From North Richmond, the climb starts. At first it seems relatively easy and we get a chance to take in some views.

The turnoff into Bowen Mountain Road produces the first pinch and is followed by a short and fast downhill segment and a false flat. The Gradient then picks up to a 12% average. Following the road takes us onto Wattle Street and the 500 + metres of gradients well into the mid-20's. Many people have stopped and turned around here and the locals know it - they just smile and wave to you! It doesn't get any easier as you approach Bellbird Crescent with a final kick up to Lt Bowen Rd where we head North. If you thought it was all over, there is a little kick to remind you that your legs need to still do some work.

At the Cul-de-Sac, we rest! Eat some food, gather our thoughts and realise that we have worked way too hard to enjoy the scenery - just as the Ride Leader reminds you that the potentially hazardous descent will require all your concentration with no time to look at the beautiful surrounds. Your brakes must be in top working order and special care must be taken to allow plenty of space between riders. The newly resurfaced road provides plenty of grip but there are numerous high speed sharp corners. Some traffic is to be expected and the narrowness of the road is something to keep in mind.

Once we are back on Gross Vale Road, we ride as a fast-paced group to our finish.

This Short Course of the ride will be run in conjunction with other Bike North rides to the area namely Footloose in the Foothills. It is highly likely that this ride will terminate at the Coffee Stop and join the other ride requiring all participants to sign onto another ride- Refer Notes above.

It is expected that -

1. This will not be your first Bike North Ride.
2. That you have contacted the Ride Leader to confirm your suitability.
3. That you must have working Front and Rear Lights if the ride commences prior to sunrise.
4. Your bike is in perfect working condition and that you are self-sufficient.
