Short DescriptionStarting from Adamstown Station, we ride south to Tuggerah utilising shared paths separated by sometimes busy highways (always using the hard shoulders) and quiet suburban back streets
Full DescriptionFrom Adamstown Station, we are almost immediately on the Fernleigh Track, a dedicated shared track for cyclists, runners and walkers, which meanders south for 15 km before we join the Pacific Hwy riding the hard shoulder for 4 km before joining a shared path to Swansea Bridge.
A cycle track, under the bridge, takes us to the Lake Macquarie Foreshore Track which we follow to the quiet Old Pacific Hwy. Following a sign, at a roundabout to Murrays Beach, we climb up and over a steep ridge to the Lakehouse Café with good food and views over Lake Macquarie. We further descend to yet another foreshore shared path which does include a 100 metre section where we dismount and walk our bikes eventually riding quiet back streets through the sleepy suburbs of Cams Wharf and Nords Wharf after which we rejoin the Pacific Hwy riding the gently undulating hard shoulder for 7 km to Lake Munmorah turning into Elizabeth Bay Drive, a rural back road heading south to Budgewoi again on a hard shoulder.
From Budgewoi to The Entrance, we have the option of the hard shoulder of the Central Coast Hwy or the newly opened but more undulating shared path. At The Entrance, we immediately join the shared Tuggerah Lake Foreshore Track to the finish at Tuggerah Rail Station.
If catching the train to Adamstown, it is necessary to board the last 4 carriages.
Food and water pick ups along the route should not be a problem as we do pass villages with shops. There are toilets at convenient intervals along the route also
