My early riding career as a kid was around Kissing Point Rd and ‘commutes’ to Turramurra High School. Then came along uni, marriage, kids and the whole shebang and I got out of the habit of riding.

With retirement came both the funds and time to return to cycling. Initially this was on an MTB and the local trails – typically solo.

Following a hip implant, and wanting both challenging and group rides, I joined BikeNorth. What an eye opener that was! As a MTBer I was fairly fit but my MTB was slow and heavy and I was repeatedly last in the group rides up the hills – even on the easy rides.

It was now time to buy my first road bike. That made a huge difference and I moved from easy rides to medium rides and wasn’t dropped and could generally keep up with the leaders.

Now it is payback time to introduce, and re-introduce, others to the joys and challenges of cycling by becoming a ride leader
