A cycling / sightseeing visit to a classic autumn destination.

In 2022 the Autumn Classics weekend will be going to Canberra – March 25th 26th and 27th

Explore Canberra by bike.  Rides will be at a gentle pace – with the whole point being to have a look around while we ride.

Sunday May 30th9am Start. Haig Park Girrahween St Canberra Eastern Lake and Galleries Grade Easy 28km mostly shared user paths and some local streets / mostly flat,, Coffee stop at Kingston https://ridewithgps.com/routes/34810557

These will be led rides and conducted under the ride protocols of bike north with a sign on sheet, briefing at the start etc. Rides are mostly on road with some cycle paths or on-road cycle lanes.

All rides will leave from Haig Park, Girrahween St, Canberra

Participation 

Riders must be 18years and over. Restricted to members of BN. (got friend who wants to come with you – easy; have them join BN $35).

Gear

Normal on bike requirements, warm clothing for on and off the bike. Include a wet weather jacket if forecast include showers. If you plan to use your bike for evening transport – make sure you have lights on your bike.

Meals

Breakfasts up to you. Coffee stops and a lunch stop (on Saturday) will be included on the rides. Details on the evening meal options will be circulated closer to the event.

Transport

Transport to and from Canberra will be the responsibility of participants. Carpooling encouraged.

Accommodation

Participants need to make their own accommodation bookings, ideally somewhere that is easy to get to Haig Park – there are numerous hotels along Northbourne Ave, Canberra and easy pedal to the start of the rids. Some of us are staying at The Travelodge Hotel.

Off-Bike Activities

Maybe plan a slightly longer visit as there are great range of exhibitions in national galleries and museums – National Art Gallery, National Portrait Gallery, National Film and Sound Archives, National Museum and National Library all have excellent exhibitions.
